The wet lab through a combination of videos and live demonstrations will look at the interplay of the core and distal limbs in the canine gait. It will discuss the role of Central Pattern Generators along with Motor Control and Proprioceptive feedback pathways in the regulation of gait and how the gait changes under conditions of altered Motor Control and Proprioceptive Feedback. The influence of central protective changes in response to pain and subsequent inhibition of individual muscles or groups of muscles will be discussed and how this can alter the gait pattern will be considered.
Each individual will have a characteristic gait pattern therefore treatment plans can not be prescriptive, rather patient focused treatment options will be discussed following on from individual gait evaluation using a problem solving approach.

Dr Lowri Davies, BVSc, Dip ACVSMR, MRCVS, Cert Vet Ac (IVAS), CCRP
Lowri Davies graduated from Bristol Veterinary School in 1992 and developed her interest in sports medicine and rehabilitation whilst working in specialist equine practice.
Lowri completed her IVAS certificate in Veterinary Acupuncture in 1999 and her CCRT accreditation in 2004. In the same year she established the SMART Veterinary Referral Centre - the first specialised sports medicine and rehabilitation clinic for small animals in the UK.
She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2015 and is past president of the British Veterinary Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine association. Her clinics have a large Europe wide client base and Lowri is called upon regularly to lecture internationally on the subject.
Lowri has also contributed to a number of texts on pain management and rehabilitation as well as authoring “Care of the Canine Athlete”. Her main interests are musculoskeletal ultrasound, sports medicine and the management of complex pain cases.
